250701 Wireless Charging

Was at a phone repair shop having my bloated battery changed and I had them stick a metal ring to the inside of its back cover. Turned out, after I put the protective case back on, the distance between the metal ring and the magnet ring is too far, the holding power is weak. So I added another metal ring directly on the protective case.

My phone is capable of wireless charging, its induction coil is located at the back, but without a ferromagnetic ring. With this newly added ring, I can now attach a wireless charger, or a semiconductor (Peltier) cooler on its back.

Wireless charging can generate a lot of heat, especially when the distance between the charger and the device increases.

So I got myself an Aukey wireless charger and cooler combo the other day.

Besides the blinky LED white light, there are switches for fan speed and charging circuit.

As there is a metal ring between the inside of the back cover and the induction coil, the cooling power is reduced.

Another problem is the curved surface on its back, making the attaching of a magnet/metal ring difficult.

So it remains largely unused.

Instead, I got myself this Mcdodo combo.

To the left is the Mcdodo air vent clip. I choose this because:

  1. The clip is more secure than the older slide-in/out type. It uses a screw to tighten itself.
  2. Ball-joint socket for easy swiveling.
  3. Mcdodo has the strongest MagSafe magnet rings compared to other products.
  4. Won’t drop off easily compared to suction-cup types.
  5. Sticky type of suction pad also will not allow easy relocation of holder.
  6. Able to rotate phone between portrait/landscape easily, both due to ball joint and the round shape of MagSafe ring.
  7. Placing phone in front of air vent will help cool down the phone. Wireless charging generates lots of heat.

To the right is the Mcdodo wireless charging disc with MagSafe, also has a blinky white LED.

The MagSafe side has the charging coil which faces the phone. On the reverse side (in this image), you can see I have added a round Baseus metal ring so that it can be attached to the MagSafe air vent car holder I mentioned earlier.

I didn’t use the Aukey wireless charger + semiconductor cooler earlier because its curved surface (of its back) won’t allow me to stick said metal ring properly and firmly. Moreover, the car holder is disc-shaped instead of ring-shaped, blocking its fan inlet.
